Parque Hortícola da Quinta da Granja

Lisbon's first municipal horticultural park, opened by the city in the Benfica district in 2011, where residents lease plots through public competition to grow organically — the model for the city's wider network of municipal allotment parks.

Residents obtain plots through an open public competition and grow vegetables and fruit using organic methods. The city provides horticulture training and permanent technical support, with the gardens integrated into an urban park that also has lawns, playgrounds and kiosks.

A municipally-run public programme: plots are allocated to residents at low cost, combining organic cultivation, technical support and community interaction.

Gives residents affordable, stable space to grow food and launched Lisbon's network of municipal allotment parks (21 parks, around 850 plots), drawing wide participation including older residents and greening the city.

Plots on city-owned land are allocated to residents by public competition under a use permit.
