Uesumiyoshi Farm (formerly Minna-no-Uen Uesumiyoshi)

Sumiyoshi, Osaka, Japan · Operator: 土地オーナー(立ち上げ支援:一般社団法人グッドラック/みんなのうえん、Osaka Metroエリアリノベ連携)

Overview

In Uesumiyoshi, Sumiyoshi Ward: a nagaya paired with a vacant-lot farm. Started 2023 as Minna-no-Uen Uesumiyoshi; since April 2025 it continues as owner-run Uesumiyoshi Farm.

Citizen participation

Neighbourhood plots reached on foot or by bike. The adjacent nagaya’s residents drop by; passers-by can see the garden. Ownership-led ops since April 2025 after Good Luck / Minna-no-Uen incubation.

Operating model

Osaka Metro area renovation reused a nagaya and the adjacent vacant lot as a farm. Minna-no-Uen incubated operations, then handed them to the landowner—a baton-pass model.

Impact

Demonstrates a handoff model so individual owners can sustain urban farms after civic incubation.

Land tenure

Owned

Owner-held land; ops transferred from Good Luck to the owner
