This study surveyed 40 trainees of the urban agriculture instructor course at the Gyeonggi Provincial Agricultural Research & Extension Services, South Korea, on October 7, 2011, analyzing the importance and performance of the urban agriculture education program using an IPA (importance-performance analysis) model. Based on the findings, it proposes reforms to the instructor course: teaching should be practice-oriented rather than theoretical so trainees can apply learning in actual urban agriculture, teaching materials should be practical rather than purely theoretical, and since theoretical content is already covered in materials, instruction should emphasize hands-on practice.

This article recounts a decade-long "reporters sleep overnight at farm households" activity run by the Ezhou Daily newspaper in China. The 2011 edition of the activity was themed "visiting family farms to promote urban agriculture," in which 30 editors and reporters went to rural areas to eat, live, and work alongside farmers.

This paper investigates farmers' professional cooperative organizations in Wuhan, China, examining their social basis, characteristics, and organizational forms. It identifies these cooperatives as a new type of rural economic organization and an effective vehicle for modern urban agriculture. The study concludes that developing such organizations is necessary for them to become an important industrial basis for modern urban agriculture and rural areas.

This paper, based on a case study of Beijing, China, discusses the necessity of integrating urban agriculture into urban ecological infrastructure construction. Through data review and comprehensive analysis, it examines the diverse services of urban agriculture, urban morphological evolution problems, green space construction bottlenecks, and urban-rural integrated development requirements. The paper analyzes specific ways urban agriculture can support urban ecological infrastructure in suburban, outer suburban, and mountainous regions, proposing government policy guarantees like optimized planning and financial support.

A survey of cherry trees in Yunnan Province, China, from 2008 to 2009 observed symptoms such as foliar chlorosis and reddening, stem deformity, and tree stunting. Leaf samples from 68 flowering cherry and 30 sweet cherry trees were tested by RT-PCR, detecting Little cherry virus 2 (LChV-2) in 87% of flowering cherry and 27% of sweet cherry trees, with an overall infection rate of 68.4%. This study represents the first report of LChV-2 in China.

A SWOT analysis was conducted for urban agriculture in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration, China, to provide a reference for its sustainable development. The analysis led to specific proposed strategies, including strengthening government support, developing agricultural industrialization, promoting technological innovation, establishing new service systems for production, management, and marketing, and developing leisure agriculture.

Urban agricultural landscape is a composite functional system combining modern agriculture, rural culture, tourism and leisure, environmental education, and farming experience, dependent on agricultural production. With urban and rural development, urbanization, and agricultural modernization, metropolitan agricultural landscapes face significant impacts and challenges. This paper analyzes the relationship between rural and urban development and metropolitan agricultural landscapes, then proposes a strategy for the metropolitan agricultural landscape in Taihu Lake.

This paper describes the objectives, process, and outcomes of three urban greening projects in low-income communities in Bangkok, Thailand, and Badulla, Matale, Moratuwa, and Matara, Sri Lanka. These projects developed and validated a "Four-Directional Framework" for sustainable community development using participatory action research. Urban greening, incorporating urban agriculture, was found to be an effective tool for improving relationships between local authorities and residents and for building a foundation for sustainable development initiatives.

This study investigated the planning process of resident-participatory community gardens in South Korea and confirmed their effects. A process was developed to facilitate the embodiment, proposition, and discussion of community garden planning ideas based on local demands. This process was utilized in resident workshops for actual community garden planning, and its effects on residents' views and planning changes were confirmed.

Core activities focused on operationalizing a City Strategy Agenda and an innovation project targeting low-income urban producers.

This study aimed to identify the social and economic effects of community gardens by analyzing detailed cases in the U.S. based on social capital theory. In the U.S., community gardens are utilized for plant cultivation and horticulture, as well as complex activities like education, play, leisure, and rest, creating sustainable community values. While Korean community gardens often operate as urban farms or parks, the study suggests that managing them with spatial characteristics and programs that foster communities by gathering residents is desirable for community contribution and sustainability.

A 2011 study conducted in the Seoul metropolitan area of South Korea analyzed the participation status and demands regarding urban agriculture. The research involved interviews with urban agriculture site operators and participants from June to July 2011, and a survey of 153 general citizens who participated in a pocket garden event on September 3, 2011. The survey covered urban agriculture awareness, participation status, attitudes towards eco-friendly agriculture, produce safety, and activation measures.

This article proposes the "ecology of agricultural labor" as a new alternative characterized by intermediate technology, mass production, local consumption, and recycling agriculture. It illustrates this concept with two examples: natural farming by Jinlei in Zaoqiang County, Hebei Province, and the Little Donkey Citizen Farm in Beijing, China. The study suggests that this approach forms the basis for sustainable development by fostering symbiotic relationships between humans, society, and nature.

This study examined farmers' professional cooperatives in Wuhan, a central city in China's central region, concluding that they are effective organizations for undertaking modern agricultural scale operations. Farmers' professional cooperatives are new rural economic organizations spontaneously formed by farmers to adapt to new rural and agricultural development situations, aiming to become an important industrial organizational foundation for modern urban agriculture and rural areas.

This study established a system dynamics model for the sustainable development system of urban agritourism by analyzing its causal loop diagram and stock and flow diagram. Based on this system dynamic modeling and simulation, an optimal mode for the sustainable development of urban agritourism in Conghua District of Guangzhou City was proposed. The research provided a better theoretical basis and response options for the sustainable development of urban agritourism to relevant decision makers.

This study evaluated citizens' willingness-to-pay for the maintenance fund of urban agriculture's multi-functions in South Korea. The analysis categorized respondents into vegetable garden users, general consumers, and all respondents. The estimated values for multi-functionality were KRW 20,367 per household for general consumers, KRW 22,174 for urban agriculture users, and KRW 21,467 for all respondents.

This study aimed to identify the needs assessment for urban agricultural programs. Urban citizens expressed a need for educational programs addressing "shortage of farming technology education" and desired "farming technology" education more than other areas. They requested urban agricultural programs with both theory and practice, preferring an 80:20 ratio of practice to theory for "farming technology" based programs. Citizens most preferred a 3 to 6-month education period, with over 95% indicating a desire to join such a program if developed.

A study on the initial planning stage of resident-participation community gardens, using a case in Jeonju City, South Korea. Based on a literature and theoretical review together with case studies, it identifies five modes of resident participation in community garden planning and applies them to a community garden construction project in a deteriorated area of Jeonju. The study provides improvement guidelines for the initial planning stage of resident-participation community gardens.

International experience indicates that the development of ecological urban agriculture is inseparable from the rise of a middle-income group, characterized by taking responsibility for social stability, holding non-extreme policy positions, and — in consumption — emphasizing environmental protection and advocating green consumption. The paper argues that urban agriculture must foreground an ecological theme to attract this middle-income consumer group, gain support from a consumer base of sufficient scale, and allow the multifunctionality of ecological urban agriculture to be realized and exercised.

Based on a survey of 30 green roofs created between 2002 and 2004 by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, this study analyzed the properties needed to reclassify green roofs into three types via cluster analysis. The previous classification, based on structural safety diagnosis type and visual expert judgment on site, was found to require correction. Results showed that the concepts of "rooftop garden" and "green roof" differ from those in previous studies: intensive green roofs referred to as rooftop gardens were closer to integrated management, while green roofs were closer to low management. Reclassification of greening types was also carried out using categorical regression analysis, which extracted factors influencing greening type; the analysis's R-squared value was 95.2%. This result indicated that rooftop gardens are places demanded for high levels of human activity.

The project's implementing entity is Hangzhou Dingyi Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., recognized as a leading agricultural enterprise of Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, a Zhejiang provincial pollution-free production base, a Hangzhou urban agriculture demonstration park, and one of the district's "top-100 urban demonstration" agriculture parks. The company operates 92 hectares, of which 77.2 hectares are under cultivation and 14.8 hectares are usable water surface for aquaculture. Its Dingyi-brand watermelon, fresh soybean, and cabbage hold national A-grade green food certification, and its Dingyi-brand fresh corn, scallion, and cauliflower hold national pollution-free product certification.
