Since the Central Committee's strategic deployment for building new socialist rural areas, Zhenhai District in China has actively implemented policies, making new rural construction a priority for the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan." The district formulated guidelines, outlining key tasks such as developing urban agriculture, boosting village economies, increasing farmers' income, accelerating infrastructure, and expanding public services to rural areas. Zhenhai District has rapidly advanced the construction of new rural communities, emphasizing integrated urban-rural planning and coordinated development, resulting in well-planned, clean, well-serviced, culturally rich, democratically managed, and comfortable rural communities.

This study investigated the construction of a socialist new countryside in Xiaohe District, Guiyang City, which has a prominent contradiction of high population and limited land (20,400 agricultural residents, 4,800 mu of cultivated land). The district government promoted urban, ecological, specialized, efficient, and leisure tourism agriculture, establishing eight agricultural tourism bases and three provincial-certified pollution-free agricultural product bases. This led to a more rational agricultural structure, diversified income channels for farmers, and improved rural infrastructure and ecological environment.

To accelerate the development of modern urban agriculture and agricultural mechanization in Wuxi City, China, the Wuxi Agricultural Machinery Bureau organized a study tour to South Korea. The tour focused on modern agricultural production technology, large-scale agricultural operation methods, agricultural and horticultural machinery, agricultural product processing machinery development, and agricultural management systems. The findings from this inspection were used to discuss issues related to Wuxi City's modern urban agriculture development and agricultural mechanization.

Ningbo's Yinzhou District invested 190 million yuan over two years to implement over 40 "Hundred Gardens" projects, focusing on rural leisure, tourism, agricultural technology, and farm stay experiences. These projects, centered on agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, aim to provide citizens with new agricultural industries for leisure and experience. By 2005, 27 projects were completed, attracting 800,000 visitors and generating over 12 million yuan in revenue.

A systematic review of research literature on urban agriculture in China revealed that Chinese academia has focused on the origin, definition, connotation, and localized demonstration studies of urban agriculture. However, systematic research on theoretical deepening and the relationship with urban development is scarce. Approximately six genres of domestic urban agriculture research were identified.

This study examined environmental protection consciousness and willingness to pay (WTP) for agricultural non-point pollution in a suburban agricultural area in Beijing, China, using the contingent valuation method (CVM). Survey results showed that residents' environmental protection consciousness is rising, with a positive relationship between educated ages and family net income with WTP, but a negative relationship between interviewee age and WTP. The averaged WTP was 49.18 yuan RMB per capita, and the total WTP for Shunyi district was about 26.81 million yuan RMB in 2002.

A study on wastewater management in 300 class-I cities and 23 metropolitan cities in India found that the total wastewater generated is approximately 158x10^8 l/day, with treatment capacity being only 375x10^7 l/day. In metropolitan cities, only 30% of wastewater is treated before disposal, and most cities only have primary treatment facilities. Untreated water is being used for urban agriculture, posing risks to public health and potential surface and groundwater pollution.

This study surveyed 180 participants from five city farms in Taichung, Taiwan, between March and April 2004, to assess service quality, satisfaction, and intentions. While perceived service qualities were generally good, overall satisfaction was rated as "slightly satisfied," and renewal and recommendation intentions were rated as "slightly agreed," indicating significant room for improvement. Service content and management had significant effects on overall satisfaction, management on renewal, and service content on recommendation.

This study calculated the economic effects of Women-Farmer's Centers in South Korea, which provide services like childcare, after-school learning, education, and counseling. Based on the business plans of 14 centers, the total economic income effect was estimated at 2,784 million won. The services contributed to the ease and quality of life for women farmers and generated economic benefits for the community and country.
