Overview
An organic farm on a rooftop above the concrete city. Begun in 2014, it pairs a CSA with citizen participation to shorten the distance between city and countryside.
Citizen participation
Denmark's first rooftop farm, run as a CSA: around 40 member households pay before the season for a weekly harvest share. Open to everyone on Wednesdays, when locals help sow and tend the plants, chickens and bees.
Operating model
Built on prepaid CSA membership, combined with the rooftop restaurant 'Gro Spiseri' and income from tours and events.
Impact
Turns unused rooftop space into a place for food and connection, giving citizens hands-on contact with farming; in 2018 it grew into 'FællesGro', partnering with several organic farms.
Land tenure
Operated on the leased roof of the former auction house (Nellemannhuset).
