Jin'an Li Rooftop Garden and Rainwater Park, Da'an District, Taipei
Taipei, Taiwan · Operator: Jin'an Li (neighborhood community), Da'an District
Overview
A flagship neighborhood-level case of the Garden City program, where Jin'an Li residents turned neglected spaces into three green sites-a rooftop vegetable garden, a rainwater farm and a corner herb garden-while weaving in local history and creative placemaking.
Citizen participation
Residents adopt the activity-center rooftop and vacant lots, jointly running planter-box and gourd-trellis cultivation, rainwater harvesting, a solitary-bee 'bee apartment' and an aquatic-plant pond.
Operating model
A neighborhood-led volunteer operation. Within the Taipei Garden City framework, residents use public rooftops and vacant lots free of charge and maintain them through mutual aid.
Impact
For over a decade it has given residents the joy of harvesting, eliminated illegal dumping on idle lots, and become a neighborhood model for eco-city making and pollinator (solitary bee) conservation.
Land tenure
The neighborhood uses the rooftop of the Jin'an district activity center and surrounding public vacant land under permission/license.
