The Primary Discussion on the Landscape Construction in the Tourism Development of Urban Agriculture

A two-year study in Florencia, Cuba, examined 32 randomly selected backyard producers involved in urban agriculture. While 90% applied scientific techniques to animal feed, only 10% kept records, and no sustained work was done with animal species in existing associations. Productive results were encouraging, but achieved with low productive efficiency, and sustainable management methods for breeding and waste were unknown in practice.

This study investigated factors influencing career choices among graduates of an urban agricultural education program. While former students identified parents and friends as influential, and cited various reasons for their career paths, a discriminant analysis model could not distinguish between those who chose agricultural careers and those who did not after completing the secondary agricultural program.

A systematic review of research literature on urban agriculture in China revealed that Chinese academia has focused on the origin, definition, connotation, and localized demonstration studies of urban agriculture. However, systematic research on theoretical deepening and the relationship with urban development is scarce. Approximately six genres of domestic urban agriculture research were identified.

This paper discusses the development of urban agriculture and modern agricultural villages in metropolitan rural areas of China. It argues that metropolitan agriculture is crucial for China's agricultural development and for improving farmers' living standards. In the context of WTO entry and international competition, agricultural comprehensive development should focus on addressing "three rural issues" by integrating local conditions to define key directions, regions, and projects.

In January 2003, the "Hangzhou Urban Agriculture Development Implementation Opinions" notice was issued. Urban agriculture is defined as agriculture in highly industrialized and urbanized cities and their surrounding areas, leveraging urban advantages in capital, information, talent, and technology.

This study investigated snail rearing as an urban agricultural practice in Lagos State, Nigeria, by surveying 60 systematically selected respondents from three divisions. It found that respondents used intensive rearing systems with concrete and wire mesh cages, selling snails for N60-N140 after N10-N40 costs, and using proceeds to feed their families. Most respondents were single females aged 30-40 with a B.Sc/HND education.

This study tested eleven hypotheses on member satisfaction in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) using survey data from 204 members of 5 mid-Atlantic CSAs during the 2000 growing season. Results indicated that satisfaction positively correlated with supporting alternative agricultural practices, frequency of CSA visits, years of membership, and the likelihood of shares meeting produce needs. Being vegetarian, female, older, or a working member were additional predictors of satisfaction.

A Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) was conducted in dairy farms of the North West Province of Cameroon to understand prevailing dairy systems, identify problems, and set priorities for research and development to improve production. The research team visited farmers' groups and conducted farm and village walks, noting direct observations. Results showed five small-scale dairy production systems (transhumance, improved extensive, semi intensive, zero grazing, and peri-urban) exist in the region, with agriculture well integrated into dairying. Main constraints, in order of importance, included poor marketing opportunities, limited grazing land, poor reproductive management, inadequate knowledge in processing and milk preservation, and limited health control.

This research investigated the influence of forced vibrations on the energy requirements for soil preparation in terroponic crops. Experiments conducted at UNAH using an MTZ-80 tractor at approximately 20 cm depth demonstrated that the energy requirements for scarifying organs could decrease by more than 25% with vibrations. This finding may enable the development of tillage equipment capable of being coupled to existing low-power sources in urban agriculture.

This study examines San Luis Tlaxialtemalco, a town of 12,553 inhabitants in the Xochimilco borough in southern Mexico City that engages in urban agriculture, through a survey of 185 households, to determine whether greenhouses are a viable option for generating household income and which forms of family economic participation and sexual division of labor prevail. It also examines whether access to financial resources, age, and educational attainment give wives greater say in decision-making and freedom of movement, comparing them with wives engaged in paid and unpaid non-farm activities in the same town.

An assessment in West Oakland, California, evaluated new community food programs — community gardens, mobile markets and local farmers markets — that went beyond typical food banks to address food insecurity. In spring 2005, the researcher interviewed program leaders and 45 West Oakland residents. Results showed residents were generally aware of how to eat healthily but unable to do so because of limited proximity to vendors stocking healthy foods; many used the farmers market, but few relied on the other community food programs, and residents living close to the farmers market and community gardens benefited more than those elsewhere. The study concludes that educational campaigns and the placement of additional food programs are needed to improve access.

A review chapter surveys the concept, opportunities and constraints of urban aquaculture in South and Southeast Asia (SSEA), using the "extended metropolitan region" (EMR) and "waste economy" models to outline three development trajectories: opportunistic development within a changing aquatic landscape as urbanization proceeds, continuation of existing aquaculture in modified form as urbanization occurs around it, and strategic siting of new enterprises to exploit resources such as nutrients, markets or information. Urban aquaculture is described as providing benefits at household, local and municipal levels including waste disposal, food production, flood control, employment, environmental quality and recreation, while constraints include loss of suitable physical locations, changes in waste disposal practices, shifting attitudes and demand as urban areas grow more affluent, and vulnerability to contamination and theft due to the openness of aquatic systems.

Based on survey data from randomly selected tourists visiting Yang Ling, China, collected using the contingent valuation method (CVM), this paper gathers information on willingness to pay for the visit and its influencing factors, and quantitatively analyzes the development of urban agriculture. On this basis, the leisure function of the Yang Ling Agricultural Landscape Park is valued at RMB 52.42 million. The paper also offers recommendations for future use of the CVM.
