Microgreen farming is presented as a popular method for income generation in urban agriculture. It is characterized by high nutrient density, a fast turnaround time (10-14 days after germination), year-round cultivation, minimal resource requirements (seeds, soil, water, trays), and a high yield-to-space ratio. Prices for microgreens range from INR 150-250 per 50 grams, indicating good market value for urban farmers.

This study proposed the development of a mobile device application to facilitate the management and monitoring of urban farming production. The application can be used by less experienced farmers by providing information on optimal seasonal products based on soil characteristics and climate. The developed application demonstrated potential to increase crop visibility, enhance efficiency across the value chain, provide real-time business and financial data access, allow user profile customization, improve marketing process efficiency, and reduce transport costs.

This study aimed to implement school gardens using recyclable materials in several schools in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Pet bottles, tires, pallets, and shingles were used to prepare beds and support plants. The activities were carried out by members of the "Living Garden Extension Project at School" in collaboration with students and teachers, and the garden space was utilized as an environment for teaching various subjects.

This study evaluated the characteristics of F2 genotypes of ornamental chili (Capsicum spp.) at the Experimental Garden of Trilogy University Agroecotechnology Study Program from November 2019 to April 2020, using the single plant method. Significant differences were found in quantitative characters such as plant height, fruit weight, fruit length, fruit diameter, and seed number. Qualitative characters also showed diversity among the planted genotype population.

A community service program in Rajabasa Jaya Village, Bandar Lampung, Indonesia, addressed land conversion and irrigation issues in an urban fringe agricultural area. The program aimed to empower the Harapan Kita Women Farmers Group by providing training on urban farming methods for ginger cultivation in home gardens. It also included installing instant herbal ginger processing machines and training on producing instant ginger to enhance the economic value of their harvest.

A community service activity in Depok, Indonesia, aimed to establish vegetable consumption habits among residents by utilizing limited space for verticulture. The training employed organic and non-organic waste as growing media, using participatory methods and demonstrations. Participants practiced planting vegetables from seeds to harvest using verticulture, and the activity was deemed successful as most participants were able to harvest their own crops.

A study assessed carbon storage in rooftop farming using rice husk biochar (RHB) as a soil amendment. Seven soil supplementation treatments were assayed, including 20 wt.% organic fertilizer (worm casting), RHB (1.5, 2.0, or 2.5 wt.%), and combinations of worm casting with RHB, plus a non-supplemented control. The highest amount of carbon in biomass and soil was observed when using soil supplemented with worm casting plus 2.5 wt.% RHB, which positively impacted carbon sequestration in rooftop agricultural soils and urban food security.

A key informant survey of 52 respondents was conducted in Kathmandu, Nepal, to assess the current status of rooftop gardening. All respondents expressed positive views on rooftop gardening, with rooftop farms covering 5-13% of the area. Significant monetary soft benefits were identified for food production, air quality, stormwater retention, and carbon sequestration. However, traditional methods using plastic bags, pots, and styrofoam were employed for garden maintenance. Constraints were recorded regarding rooftop farming establishment and continuation, indicating a need for proper training for efficient management.

DKI Jakarta faces challenges in meeting food needs for its over 10 million residents due to limited urban food production, making it dependent on other regions. Urban farming is proposed as an alternative, particularly by optimizing the use of house yards in residential areas, which constitute 48.41% of the city. This paper emphasizes the importance of stakeholder engagement and innovative architectural interventions to facilitate urban farming in dense, narrow areas.

The film features architect Charles Durrett, who began creating cohousing communities in the U.S. in the late 1980s, and includes resident interviews discussing social and environmental benefits. It also covers shared spaces, community gardens, and challenges in establishing cohousing projects.

The Nutrition Center of the Philippines (NCP) collaborated with the Department of Education to develop nutrition education modules for elementary schoolchildren, integrating classroom, garden, and home activities. A survey in two towns found that pre-school children in households with home gardens ate vegetables more frequently and had higher dietary diversity scores than those without. NCP also promoted nutritional values through TV ads featuring student-written poems, which received an award in 1985.

This study designed and evaluated an agroecological system for a rooftop agricultural model in the high jungle of Peru, associating tomato plants (Rio Grande and Cherry varieties) with vegetable covers. The system demonstrated benefits for family food safety through pesticide-free tomatoes and created a plant barrier on roofs to reduce solar radiation. A new medium-sized tomato variety, suitable for the organic market, was also obtained through natural crossbreeding.

This study surveyed 187 gardeners from 18 urban community gardens in California's central coast to investigate how socio-demographic factors affect pest reporting and management practices. Most gardeners reported pests, with ethnicity, time spent in gardens, and agricultural employment influencing reporting likelihood. The majority used curative, non-synthetic practices, but the likelihood of using curative practices varied by gardeners' ethnicity, time spent in gardens, and gender.

A random sampling survey in Dhulikhel, Kavrepalanchok district, Nepal, found that while all respondents perceived rooftop farming as beneficial, many could not practice it due to constraints like fear of roof damage. Practicing farmers also faced difficulties managing rooftop gardens due to a lack of proper knowledge and reliance on non-recyclable planting materials.

In urban community gardens on the central coast of California, USA, gardeners' adaptation of management behaviors to drought was investigated across three periods: before, during, and after the longest drought. Structural equation modeling and multivariate analyses were used to assess the impact of water policies and gardener characteristics. Findings showed that nature relatedness and gardening experience influenced drought concern, which then impacted behavioral change. Water policies were found to promote and maintain behavioral change and conservation practices even when concern was absent.

This study evaluated the effect of four nitrogen levels (0, 90, 110, 130 kg N ha-1) on chili growth and yield in a rooftop garden using a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The 110 kg N ha-1 dose resulted in the highest plant height, while the 130 kg N ha-1 dose significantly increased fruit length, fruit yield per plant, average fruit yield per plot, individual fruit weight, and average fruit yield. The findings suggest that applying 130 kg N ha-1 enhances chili plant growth and fruit yield in rooftop gardens.

An experiment was conducted in Nagpur city, India, from July 2019 to March 2020, to grow herbs and vegetables on a 230 sq ft rooftop area. The experiment produced 61.7 kg of pesticide-free vegetables using sustainable farming methods, including cultural pest management, composting household green waste, and irrigating with harvested rainwater and greywater. The results indicate that sustainable urban rooftop farming can be an innovative means to promote urban agriculture without harming the environment.

This study proposed and tested an urban garden model derived from the traditional Korean Gyeonjongbeop farming method, interpreting practices from Imwongyeongjeji Bolliji. Researchers cultivated vegetables on ridges and furrows, finding that Raphanus sativus, Allium fistulosum L., Brassica juncea, and Spinacia oleracea on ridges, and Hordeum vulgare var. hexastichon and Triticum aestivum L. on furrows, showed higher growth than in conventional flat fields. This method proved effective for crops vulnerable to weather and could enable year-round urban farming by utilizing winter fallow lands.

In Cáceres-MT, Brazil, a compact and mobile urban garden prototype was implemented in two residences with limited space. This system cultivated chives, coriander, and parsley, supplying enough food for a family of approximately 5 people during a 90-day monitoring period. A water reuse system was also integrated, and the mobile garden structure contributed to optimizing small spaces and producing healthy, low-cost food.

A Decision Support System (DSS) for urban farming using hydroponics was developed in Pangkalpinang City, Indonesia, utilizing the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. This research considered factors such as limited urban land, suitable vegetable choices, soil conditions, fertilizers used, pest disturbances, and community interest in hydroponic vegetables. Combined assessment results from expert respondents indicated that the superiority of hydroponics was the highest supporting criterion at 19.9%, and white mustard was the most preferred vegetable at 36.4%.
