武汉市制定出农业机械化“十一五”发展新目标

Wuhan City, China, launched the "Rural Homeland Construction Action Plan" in early 2005, aiming to develop socialist new rural areas with Wuhan characteristics. This plan, initially piloted in 110 villages and expanded to 220 more in 2006, serves as a starting point for defining specific agricultural mechanization development goals. The strategic task is to ensure agricultural mechanization consistently supports the construction and development of urban agriculture in Wuhan.

The study considers whether community gardens have a role in helping to create sustainable communities that positively impact the negative social, economic, and environmental issues associated with derelict sites in inner city neighborhoods.

This paper selected models and main functions of urban agriculture for Beijing plain areas, along with six basic agriculture classes, based on experiences from modern developed countries and Beijing's development targets. It planned and analyzed urban agriculture classes using GIS, dividing plain areas into six regions and proposing different development strategies for each, aiming to assist various governments and departments in developing urban agriculture.

This article reviewed research on urban agriculture and compared urban agriculture in China with that in foreign countries, considering the background of emergence, range, industry structure, developing direction, and functions. From this comparison, it was concluded that the basic urban agriculture development models in foreign countries are not suitable for China, and China should choose a "substantial model" by integrating the modernization and substantial aspects of urban agriculture.

This essay introduces the successful modus operandi and experiences of urban agriculture in Japan, Germany, Singapore, and the Netherlands, and analyzes its basic functions. While urban agriculture has developed earlier and accumulated much experience in foreign countries, it is still a fresh matter in China. Considering China's situation, the author puts forward suggestions for developing urban agriculture, including scientific planning and reasonable distribution, strengthening government support, using more ways to invest and collect financing, promoting scientific content and expanding the scale of urban agriculture districts, paying close attention to the development of agriculture tourism, and intensifying propaganda.

Since the Central Committee's strategic deployment for building new socialist rural areas, Zhenhai District in China has actively implemented policies, making new rural construction a priority for the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan." The district formulated guidelines, outlining key tasks such as developing urban agriculture, boosting village economies, increasing farmers' income, accelerating infrastructure, and expanding public services to rural areas. Zhenhai District has rapidly advanced the construction of new rural communities, emphasizing integrated urban-rural planning and coordinated development, resulting in well-planned, clean, well-serviced, culturally rich, democratically managed, and comfortable rural communities.

Urban agriculture can contribute to improving urban quality of life by supplying agricultural goods, creating landscapes, ensuring land conservation, and providing environmental benefits like biodiversity conservation. However, these issues pose challenges to the economic viability of urban agriculture.

This study conducted an environmental diagnosis in urban areas of Santa Maria, Brazil, using the Urban Land Use Potential Assessment System (SAPUT) to identify land use conflicts. Remote sensing and geoprocessing techniques were employed. The identified problems of improper land use are related to the fragility of geological material and soil resources, with up to 33% of the area being used beyond its potential due to inadequate use for construction and urban agriculture.

This study investigated the construction of a socialist new countryside in Xiaohe District, Guiyang City, which has a prominent contradiction of high population and limited land (20,400 agricultural residents, 4,800 mu of cultivated land). The district government promoted urban, ecological, specialized, efficient, and leisure tourism agriculture, establishing eight agricultural tourism bases and three provincial-certified pollution-free agricultural product bases. This led to a more rational agricultural structure, diversified income channels for farmers, and improved rural infrastructure and ecological environment.

This paper examines spatial planning documents in two Rhône-Alpes city regions, France, as a tool for regulating land use conflicts in peri-urban agricultural areas under urbanization pressure. The analysis highlights rising tensions between local actors and suggests that agriculture is instrumentalized by spatial planning policies at the inter-communal level. At the communal level, local plans manage neighborhood and land ownership conflicts.

This study explored the situation and implications of allotment gardens through case studies of Kleingarten in Germany, Dacha in Russia, and Civic Garden in Japan. Allotment gardens were shown to be important for urban residents to gain recreation and health from agricultural activities. While allotment gardens in the three countries developed according to their historical and social contexts, their basic rationales were to provide recreation areas for supporting people's health and preserving green spaces in urban areas.

This article discusses the historical role of urban agriculture in Kyoto, an ancient Japanese city. It points out that Kyoto, being a city without ramparts, allowed urban areas to be easily converted into agricultural fields during the medieval period, suggesting it may have been the birthplace of Japanese urban agriculture. Over its 1200-year history, urban agriculture in Kyoto flexibly changed its form according to residents' needs, and agricultural fields played a significant role in the city's history.
